Storm transforms Buffalo into a “war zone” during the storm
The city of Buffalo, New York, has been left to appear like a battle zone following a devastating winter storm that swept through North America, according to the state governor.
There were 25 weather-relate deaths in the city on Monday, up from 13 on Sunday.
On Thursday, New York State Governor” Kathy Hochul” declared that “mother nature is at war with us, and she has been hammering us with everything she has.”
Nationwide, at least 50 people have died from the blizzard that spanned from Canada to the Mexican border.
Upstate New York has been most severely impact in the area surrounding Buffalo.
Buffalo-born Governor Hochul state, “It’s like entering a battle zone, and the cars parked along the sides of the roadways are startling.”
She asserted that residents were in a “life-threatening scenario” since many emergency vehicles could not reach the worst-affected areas or became stuck in the snow themselves.
One family with young children had to wait for 11 hours before being rescue in the early hours of Christmas Day. The children ranged in age from 2 to 6.
Zila Santiago, the father, told in News, “I was just hopeless.” He claim that by keeping the engine running, he could stay warm and that playing games with the kids helped ease their anxiety.
Once melting snowdrifts disclose stuck vehicles and open up remote dwellings, more victims should be searching.
The “bomb cyclone” winter storm, which arises when atmospheric pressure decreases and results in severe winds and heavy snowfall, has caused travel delays across the US.
Forecasters predict it will lighten off over the next few days, but they still advise against traveling unless necessary.
Electricity has gradually been restored, although about 250,000 homes and businesses are expect to lose power over the weekend.

In the western province of British Columbia, a bus turned over close to the town of Merritt, resulting in four fatalities.
